Ground-up custom homes, on your land

Designed in 3D, poured on engineered foundations, framed in wood or steel — and run by the owner from the first stake to the final walkthrough.

Step one is a screen, not a shovel

Design it until you love it — then build it once

Your build starts as a full 3D model of the finished home. Elevations, floor plan, roof lines, finishes — you walk through all of it and change anything, while changes still cost nothing.

Bring your own plans and we'll build from them, or start from a blank page with us. Either way, nothing gets poured until you've seen exactly what you're getting.

What's in a Jay Rod's build

Every stage, one team

01Site evaluation

We walk the lot with you — slope, drainage, access, utilities — before you commit a dollar to design.

02Design & 3D modeling

Your home modeled in full so decisions happen on screen, where they're cheap.

03Permits & engineering

Engineered plans, permits and inspections handled and scheduled — you're informed, not burdened.

04Foundation

Formed, steel-reinforced, engineered slab work — poured early in summer heat so it cures right.

05Framing — wood or steel

Both systems in-house. We frame what fits your design and site, not whichever is convenient for us.

06Dry-in & roof

Sheathing, underlayment and roofing close the home to weather so finishes go in protected.

07Mechanicals & finish-out

Electrical, plumbing and HVAC rough-ins, then every finish you picked in the model — punched until right.

08Walkthrough & keys

We walk every room together. The punch list gets done before you close, not after.

Custom build questions

Asked at every first meeting

How long does a custom build take?

It depends on size, site and selections — and we'd rather give you a real schedule at the first meeting than a pretty number here. What we promise: you'll have a written timeline before we start, and you'll know immediately when anything moves it.

Can you help us find land?

Yes. We regularly evaluate lots for clients before they buy — it's much cheaper to hear "this lot needs serious site work" before closing than after.

Wood or steel framing — which should we choose?

We build with both. Steel brings span and straightness advantages on some designs; wood is faster and friendlier on others. We'll show you the trade-offs on your actual plan.

Do you build outside San Antonio?

Yes — the Hill Country towns north of the city are home turf, and we've built as far as the Corpus Christi coast for the right project.
